Education & Training

George Aidoo is a final-year doctorate researcher at Anglia Ruskin University, UK, with a

research interest in the care of older people. He recently served as a lecturer practitioner at the

same university. He has completed several independent research studies, first at the University

of Cape Coast, Ghana, where he completed a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Tourism in 2006,

and then at the University of East London, UK, where he obtained an MSc in Public and

Community Service in 2007. He also holds an MA in Social Work from the University of East

Anglia. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Ghana, Legon, and, upon

completion, served as a teaching assistant at the Department of Archaeology in 1997. He was

among the first cohort of legislative research assistants employed by the Institute of Economic

Affairs (IEA) as a legislative research assistant attached to the Finance Committee in the

Second Parliament of Ghana from 1996 to 1998.

George is a qualified social worker with over 15 years of experience working with service users

in children’s social services, learning and physical disabilities, youth offending, Adult

Safeguarding, and mental health. He currently works as a consultant social worker, an approved

mental health professional (AMHP), a best interest assessor (BIA), and a Deprivation of Liberty

Safeguards (DOLS) authoriser. He is also a qualified practice educator and has been mentoring

student AMHPs, student social workers, and those in apprenticeship training programs. As a

consultant social worker, he manages other staff and deputizes for senior managers.

Professionally, he has extensive experience managing and supervising other staff members and

is the duty consultant for AMHPs and DOLS. Previously, he worked as a care coordinator with

the NHS Community Recovery Mental Health Team, where he supported the recovery and the

development of therapeutic relationships with service users to facilitate their engagement with

services.

George has served in various voluntary organizations, including Age Concern (Age UK) and

SOS Bless the Children Orphanage International, an organization based in Ghana, where he is

the international representative. In 2017, he served as a missionary in Kenya with Compassion

International. He serves as the chairman of the board of directors at GOAgF.
